Versature / net2phone
As an SDR over my past 2 years I’ve learned a ton. Like most SDRs my job has been to pursue both inbound and outbound leads and generate interest in our product/service. I’ve always focused on ensuring that I’m setting my AEs up for success as much as possible. I work with each AE individually to make sure we’re always on the same page and that I’m positioning things how they want me to and getting them the information they see as essential to their process. I’ve used both Outreach and Salesforce in my time as an SDR. I’ve had an odd trajectory at Versature. I started off calling Canada for about a month and a half, after that I switched over to the US Direct Sales team and was a foundational piece of building that team out from scratch. We were the first direct team they had and we struggled at first for sure but that struggle and the adjustments we made as a team are fantastic experience I couldn’t have gotten in any other situation so I’m thankful for that. With my leadership our team went from a $1 million budget to being approved for $5 million over 2 years, I see this as a huge success. Over my time in this role I’ve consistently hit quota month over month and have achieved 105% quota attainment from a demo perspective over my time in this position which I’m quite proud of under the circumstances. I then switched back to the Canadian side of operations and achieved 121% of my demo target my very first month back (no ramp-up period, this is the exact same target for team members who have been in this position for 2+ years).
Elemental Data Collection Inc.
As an interviewer at EDCI I conducted surveys over the phone with both citizens at their homes and businesses during the day. When I started at this job I had no previous experience but was immediately chosen to call B2B to conduct surveys which is something you have to be singled out for by a supervisor. I conduct surveys ranging from general opinions, politics, and product reviews all the while ensuring the quality of the sample. Although there are no sales involved in the position there are definitely similarities in the sense that you have to convince people to give you their time which is not easy. I enjoy the level of autonomy and have been able to apply some of the surveying knowledge I acquired in school while experimenting with various psychological techniques to convince people to go through, sometimes, 30+ minute studies with me.
CLS Roofing
Starting off I knew absolutely nothing about flat-roofing (or roofing in general) so my first task was to learn, which I did quickly. Once I had picked up the tricks of the trade I quickly made myself an invaluable asset to the company through hard work and proving my reliability by handling my duties, and more, no matter the circumstances. My responsibilities ranged from preventative maintenance work, to repairs, to the actual demolition of roofs and the subsequent re-roofing; occasionally I would also talk with customers to handle relevant concerns although this wasn’t one of my primary responsibilities. Roofing taught me what it means to truly work hard and dedicate yourself day in and day out; there are few jobs that rival the physical demands that are put onto you on the roof and nobody takes days off. I also proved my ability to adapt and learn quickly as this was not a job I had any experience in whatsoever and yet was swiftly acknowledged as an important member of the team.
YMCA Camp Wanakita
Over the 2 summers working at Wanakita I held two different positions. As a Cabin Counsellor I ensured the safety of the campers as well as planned and executed daily programming for the cabin. As a Resource Specialist I planned and ran activities for the “Wilderness and Environmental Pursuits” section of the camp, which included educating the campers about animals and the environment while facilitating endless amounts of fun. In this position I also managed a small team of counsellors that helped me run the various daily activities. This job teaches you responsibility quite effectively as you're not only responsible for yourself but also for groups of kids that look up to you as a role model and temporary guardian. Keeping a high-energy and positive attitude is also key to being a counsellor which I think translates well to any job.
McDonald's
My first job was working at McDonald's where my main responsibilities were cooking and preparing food as well as maintaining a clean and safe work space. I also prided myself in keeping kitchen morale high while handling the dinner rush; there's always time to have a little fun as long as you're getting your job done. The two main lessons I learned from McDonald's are how to efficiently manage my time as well as keeping busy as there's always something that can be done; good work ethic is important in any position.
