Who is Ryan Williams?
I’ve always felt a little weird about writing on the subject of myself because I believe that doing is infinitely more important than saying or writing. It’s one thing to sit here and type out my perspectives on myself and the world but it’s another thing entirely to actually exemplify those qualities in the flesh. Ultimately, how I live my life is the best indicator of who I am.
I feel strongly about our obligation as humans to help each other as much as possible and lend a hand to those in need. Especially being born into the position I have been, growing up in Canada with all the opportunities in the world, I believe it is my duty to use the advantages I’ve been graced with to make the world a better place and improve the lives of others as best I can. I also think it’s important to be passionate about your life and what you do; otherwise why do it? In saying that, my main goal in life is to synthesize my own interests and talents to help others. In the scope of sales, my current occupation, I see myself living this out as a sales leader working for a company that has the right values and offers a product/service that positively influences the lives of its users.
I graduated from Carleton University where I majored in Communications Studies and minored in Business. In my 4 years at Carleton I developed many skills including: writing various styles of papers and reports, giving a plethora of group and individual presentations, and learning how to conduct research effectively, among others. I also received a post graduate certificate from Algonquin college for Interactive Media Management. In that program I learned the Adobe suite of products and refined techniques to apply the fundamentals I learned at Carleton to online marketing and interactive media. I feel that my education is the perfect balance of business intelligence and strategy paired with the more creative communications side which, while harmonized, make me well suited for any position related to sales and marketing.
I see myself as a problem solver with a DIY attitude who leads by example. I think this approach to things comes from the mindset that I am, and always will be, a student. I view formal school as merely the starting point of my life-long education. I like to be observant and absorb as much as I can in all situations because in my opinion if you’re not learning and evolving then you’re, essentially, not living. I believe this website is a testament to my DIY attitude; this is show, not tell. I also think that getting your hands dirty is a necessity because learning through observation is only part of the equation. Actually participating is where a lot of the real improvement takes place. Many people encounter problems and simply give up or let someone else figure it out for them. I see obstacles as a challenge and prefer to tackle them myself, or with help, so that I can learn and grow.
Overall I would describe myself as an empathetic, autonomous, and ambitious individual who seeks out the positive in every negative and focuses on impacting the world in a constructive manner.
